Just Do It

I went on a lot of vacations with my grandparents when I was little.  One of the things my grandfather always did was keep a little reporters notebook of the vacation tidbits, and I do mean tidbits.  He would write how many miles we drove before we stopped.  Note what we paid for gas, followed by a calculation of mileage (this was before computerized cars), where we ate lunch, how much it cost, where we stopped for overlooks…..you get the idea.  These little books are a treasure to me.  Not only do they document the trip, but they are also a peek into my grandfather’s detail-oriented personality.

So — follow the cue from Nike and just do it.  So often we get caught up in thinking we need to put together the perfect scrapbook page, or find just the right words to journal.  The truth is our kids just want to know. They just want to remember.  A little note on the back of a cafe receipt about the time your son sent his hot dog flying to the neighboring table will be treasured, grease stain and all.
