Cleaner Air – Brighter Future

Posted on March 2, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments |

You may notice my new little blog badge off to the right.  I “earned” 350 carbon credits by posting it, but I mostly like the reminder every time I look at the blog page to pay attention to our earth and do something.  So — everyone, go out and buy 1 fluorescent lightbulb and replace one of those old heat producing bulbs your parents and grandparents used.   They are only about $4, will last longer, use less energy, produce less heat (better in the summer), and are better for the environment.

Did you know — electric lighting makes up 25% of your electric bill?  If everyone in America replaced JUST ONE regular bulb with a cfl bulb it would be like removing one million cars from the roads.    If everyone in America replaced all of their bulbs with fluorescents, we could retire 90 poluting power plants.

Just in case you are wondering, about 80% of our lighting is by CFL, so I really do try to practice what I preach.
