“Not Me” Monday

Posted on September 28, 2009. Filed under: Meme Fun, Mommy Moments | Tags: , , |

mckmama at the blog started something fun a while ago, and I’m just now finding it????  As ChickenFried would say, “what the?”

As mckmama tells it: Are you feeling guilty for drying the dishes with your shirt?  Hope no one saw you when you ran into the mailbox in your jammies?  Overcome with embarrassment after your child asked the grocery store clerk, who did NOT have a baby in her tummy “if she had a baby in her tummy?”  Well don’t be!  Not Me! Monday was born out of the desire to admit some of my imperfections and reveal a few moments I’d rather forget.  You may find it therapeutic to do the same thing!

So here I go.

I did not complain about it being Monday again.  Why in the world would I ever do that.  Mondays are wonderful.  They are the best day of the week.  They set the tone.

I did not mouth “quit fixing your hair and drive” to the blonde girl in front of me at the only-green-so-long turn arrow.  She did not catch me mouthing something.  I did not then try to make it seem like I was talking on my blue tooth …. which I really do not have (really).

I am not the mother who ‘lamed out’ on dinner and only made chicken chunks and fries.  Nope – not me.  Not ever.

I did not make fun of BigD after he said “Wizard of Oz is on.  It’s the original too — it’s in black and white.”  I did not then look at him and say “you can’t be serious.”  I did not follow with a blog post about this.

I am not not going to find an excuse to not workout tonight.  Wait — what the?

Annual Fall Trip – A Photographic Journey

Posted on September 27, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing | Tags: , , |

We try to make at least one trip to an area orchard/pumpkin farm each fall.  IMG_4704

It smells so marvelous walking through the orchard.  Even the rotten apples seem to smell fresh.

Punk doesn’t like walking through the tall grass to find the pumpkins, but all of our hands are full, so walk she must.

Success – we’ve found Honeycrisp apples, and some pumpkins.  Now back to the car with our loot.

New Find – Free Printables

Posted on September 25, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, Web World | Tags: , , |

I saw a link on the blog Natalie’s Sentiments for wonderful free printables from Vale Designs.   I love the Vale Designs sense of humor – “The Freaking Never Ending To Do List!”  and their “Common Sense Rule” to not copy their work.   They have a ton of great design ideas and other freebie downloads.

Character Quiz

Posted on September 24, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments | Tags: |

I saw the “Which Austen Heroine Are You” on another blog … and I’m sorry to say I can’t remember where so I can’t give proper credit.   But I did do the test.  My results:

You are Elizabeth Bennet of Pride & Prejudice! You are intelligent, witty, and tremendously attractive. You have a good head on your shoulders, and oftentimes find yourself the lone beacon of reason in a sea of ridiculousness. You take great pleasure in many things. You are proficient in nearly all of them, though you will never own it. Lest you seem too perfect, you have a tendency toward prejudgement that serves you very ill indeed.

Take that ChickenFried (If you’re wondering about this comment, read yesterday’s post!).

I am Elizabeth Bennet!

Take the Quiz here!

Who are you????

Wow — Thanks for the Positive Comment

A little background is required for this story.   BigD dated a few girls before me.  Some very beautiful girls.  Think:

Ok — not Kate Beckinsale personally, but in that league.  A couple of them apparently.

One girl is on one of the area radio stations.  She was in our town for homecoming and ChickenFried was excited because he hears her on the radio so he was talking a lot about her.  I pointed out to him that his Dad went on a date with her.  He looked at me and said “Why did he pick you?” in that tone of voice someone uses when they say “why did you cut your hair that way,” or “why are you wearing a tank top when it’s only 10 degrees out?”  You could tell — he really couldn’t understand why his Dad picked me.
My reply – “well if he didn’t, you wouldn’t be alive today.”

Queen’s Tuesday Meme – Sheer Poetry

Posted on September 22, 2009. Filed under: Meme Fun |

Here is my Tuesday challenge from Mimi……

This week the questions are sheer poetry. Nonsensical. Cerebral. Challenging. The answers should be too.
I have given you seven familiar limericks. Your job is to change them by filling in the blanks.

1.There was an Old Man of …….Great Age,
Who lived upon …….minimum wage;
When that did not ….. cut it,
He took ….. a work permit,
That nasty Old Man of …….. the cage.

2. There was a Young Lady whose ….. shoes,
Were unique as to color and …. blues
When she opened them …… slowly,
People all turned ……. wholly
And started away in …..twos

3. There was a Young Lady of ….. repute
Who casually sat on a  ……..lute

When the door squeezed her….. jump suit

She exclaimed, ‘….. dried fruit?’
This courageous Young Lady of …repute

4.There was an Old Man with a ….bottle
Who bumped at it with a …….throttle

But they called out,…… ‘stop!
You’re a horrid old ……sop!’
So they smashed that Old Man with a…. top.

5. There was a Young Lady whose….. roast,
Came untied when the birds ate ……most

But she said: ‘I don’t …!
All the birds in the ….air

Are welcome to sit on my ……coast!’

6. There was an Old Man of …..merlot,
Who never knew what he should…… grow
So he tore off his ……tie
And behaved like a ….guy

That intrinsic Old Man of …..cointreau

There was an Old Man of …..Pembrook
Who had the most curious…… book
For while he was …..reader,
He slept on a …..cedar,
That funny Old Man of Pembrook.

My SIL put on an adorable 1st b-day party for Carson. I brought a couple of dip recipes that party-goers wanted the recipe for and thought I would share here. These dips are always popular when I bring them (trust me, it’s not my cooking skilles – anyone could make them!). I serve them both with some type of cracker – Wheatables or Archer Farms Sesame Flatbread.

Mozzarella Dip (Thanks to my friend Ang for sharing the recipe with me in the first place!)

2 c mayo (not miracle whip)
1 c (8 oz) s cream
1 c shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 c parmesan cheese
1 T finely chopped green onion
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp sugar

Combine all ingredients, chill and serve. I find it’s best if it sits overnight because the onion/garlic has a chance to combine and mellow.

Veggie Dip
1 c mayo (not miracle whip)
1/2 c sour cream
1 1/2 c finely chopped carrots
1 c finely chopped broccoli
1 c finely chopped cucumber
1/3 c finely chopped green onions
2 tsp dill weed
1/4 tsp garlic powder

Combine all ingredients. Chill, and serve.

What’s That?

Posted on September 17, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments | Tags: |

We were cleaning up the table from dinner – Mexican fare a ‘la Patricks deli and Schwans.  I asked ChickenFried to bring me the pie plate so I could rinse it out.   He looks at me ….. looks at the table.  “The what?” he asks.

“The pie plate,” I repeat while rinsing off dishes.

“What’s that?” is his confounded response.

“The bean and cheese dish,” I reply.  That makes more sense to him as I’ve never made a pie in the pie plate …. only my little bean and cheese concoction.  I’m sure Williams and Sonoma could now take this idea and remarket pie plates and sell them for $30 instead of $20.

Rewarding Bad Behavior Part III – Tales of the Ghost Boobie Holder

Posted on September 16, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing | Tags: |

We’re all sitting in the living room watching iCarly when the floating pink bra makes it’s appearance in the show.  ChickenFried starts laughing and says, “look – a ghost boobie holder.”    I laughed — really loud.  I think I even repeated “ghost boobie holder” in that tone of voice that indicates amusement.  Now I ask you, why hasn’t Victoria Secret labeled one of their bras “boobie holder?”

Just in case you aren’t up on iCarly, catch the clip below…

Chasing Picture Perfection – Challenge 4

Posted on September 15, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, Photo Tips, The Parenting Thing | Tags: , |

I admit it – I’ve failed miserably when it came to getting the last 2 photo challenges done.  No excuses – just life.   But here is my attempt at Challenge #4: The Rule of Thirds.   In short, the concept of the rule of thirds speaks to the composition of a photo.  See Stacie’s blog for a more in depth (and better!) review of this, and other great photo tips: Chasing Picture Perfection.

This picture of Punk is nicely offset.  If you imagine a tic-tac-toe board interlaced over the top of the photo, you would see her left eye is at the left verticle line, and her mouth is at the bottom horizontal line.

Compare the photos – same tree, same light, but one subject offset and one centered.  Nothing particularly wrong with the centered photo – just not as interesting somehow.
