Scary Stuff

One of the first things we expect ChickenFried to do when he gets home is unload his backpack.  We are excited to see what he did that day …. and especially don’t want to find out at 7:15 am the next morning that he needed to have something done for school.  We were a little dismayed at what came home today.  Maybe stronger than dismayed — disturbed would be about right.

It was a letter from the Principal.  (No – nothing ChickenFried did.)  Apparently, someone posing as a child’s parent called the school and said he/she would pick the child up after school instead of the child taking the bus.  The school staff contacted the parents after school when the child had not yet been picked up only to find out it was not the parents who called.  Blood turns cold at this point, right?  Or maybe boiling once you realize there is someone in our little town who at best was pulling a prank, or at worst – I shudder to think.

The school has contacted the policy and will put additional protocols into place to id parents.  ID away.  Make us give finger prints.  When it comes to protecting my kids, I’m willing to be a bit Orwellian.

We reminded ChickenFried to never go with someone else.  We told him he would ALWAYS have a note from us if he wasn’t doing his normal routine.  And thank God B, our god-saving babysitter would call if he was 1 minute late.  But still, our little world has been tainted with something very foul indeed.

OMG- Who would do that? I can’t imagine anything worse!

Yes – can’t imagine how that kid’s parents feel. You would have to wonder if someone was ‘stalking’ them.

That is awful….yes, if in question we send the person to the office to be id’d and even phone a parent before we let them go with someone who is not on the safe list or a note has been sent.

I’m thinking our system is about to be tightened up a bit.
