Cat Got Your Tongue

Posted on April 28, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

Normally, our four year old isn’t at a loss for words.  She can really up come with any topic possible to talk about.  But during a recent shopping trip, she looked at me like she was trying to say something, but nothing came out.  Then she looked at me with somewhat sad blue eyes and said “Mommy, my words are sleeping really deep inside me.”  I guess that’s her version of ‘cat got your tongue.’  I think I like hers better!

Opinions

Something has happened, and I’m not sure I like it.  Suddenly, ChickenFried has decided he can voice his opinion on things.  I got some new clothes for him.  The only thing he liked were the denim shorts.  Plaid shorts – “no.  They’re golf shorts.”  The polo shirt – “no.  It has buttons.  I don’t like shirts with buttons.  They make me itch.”

So, I guess the only thing he’ll be wearing from now on are t-shirs and sports shorts.  Oh goodie.

Well that was a bad decision

Ok children of the 80’s …. remember this toy……..

Blip Pinpressions Stocking Stuffer Pin Print

I took the kiddos to Target last weekend and told them they could each pick out a toy.  Punk picked one of the “pin print” toys.  Oh, everyone had fun with it for the past week.  ChickenFried even figured out that if he stuck his belly out (not so hard these days) and put it on his gut, it made an impression of his belly/belly button.

Tonight, the “pins,” which are now made of plastic” were getting stuck and not going back into place.  I surveyed the problem and noticed the makers of the toy must have left the screws showing so you could take the toy apart, ‘reset it,’ and then easily screw it back together.  It really seemed like a good idea at the time.

But, once you pull the plates apart, the pins just go any which way.  So, to put it back together I would literally have to put each of the hundreds of pins back into place individually.

I guess I’ll be going back to Target tomorrow to buy Punk another one which will get played with another week.

The Production

Both kiddos had soccer games this am, the first one at 9:00.  Do you know what time we started getting them ready?????  8:00.

Why is it such a production to get kids ready?  I’ll grant you that putting the soccer socks, shin guards and shoes take a bit more effort.  But an hour?  Yet, that’s what it took from the first ‘you’d better start getting ready’ to the last ‘hurry up – we need to go.’   The result…..

Punk looked adorable, but started to cry when someone else kicked the ball.  It then took bribery to get her back out onto the field.   She doesn’t want anyone else on her team.  She doesn’t like the blue shirts.  She doesn’t want to go back.  She doesn’t like soccer.

Air Guitar

Posted on April 1, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing | Tags: , |

We’re in the car and Baba O’Riley comes on (I was so proud that ChickenFried identified it correctly … see the previous post about The Who at the Super Bowl if you want to know just how proud).  We’re rocking out and ChickenFried says “Mama – I want a guitar.”  Pause.  “How much is an air guitar?”

I laughed for the next 10 minutes straight.  I did explain to him what an air guitar is and told him he could pay me for telling him.
