Mommy or Mummy

Posted on October 28, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

My Mom/Mum sent the kids each Halloween cards.  ChickenFried was reading his card out loud to Punk:  “What’s silent and smells like dust ……. Mummy farts.    Ha Ha Ha Ha.  Get it – Mummy farts.”

Punk wrinkles her nose and says “Mommy, do you fart a lot?”

Thank goodness ChickenFried corrected her and explained it was “muuuuumies” not “mommy.”

Car Horns

Posted on October 18, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments |

I think I should patent this blog because it may become someone’s great business idea ….

Why is it that you can download ringtones for your phone, but not specific horns for your car.  Someone honks the horn and you don’t know if it’s you, or what you did, or if it’s the guy next to you ….. Or better yet, I can’t accurately relay what some other idiot did.  For example, I would like the following options:

1.  “Did you even LOOK before you changed lanes?”

2.  “You obviously have a turn signal – is your pinky broken?”

3.  “Seriously – who gave you a driver’s license?”

4.  “For God’s sake GOOOOOOO.”

I think any of these would accurately serve their purpose many times over.   What would your horn say?

Updated — and more just from my drive in this morning.

5.  “Can you at least go the speed limit?”

6.  “You have a sportscar – drive like you have a sportscar.”

7. “Put down the phone and drive.”

8. “Put down the makeup and drive.”

9. “Put down the ….. are you kidding me – you’re reading a newspaper?  Put it down.”

Making Work Fun

Posted on October 11, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

You know how people say you can change how you feel about something by changing the perspective?  Well, ChickenFried has given me a new perspective on a couple of work items.

Off site Meetings = Field Trip (“Mom – what are you doing today. ”   “I have a meeting offsite.”  “Is that like a field trip?”)

Presentation = Show and Share (ChickenFried over hears a conversation where I’m telling someone I need to be to work bright and early because I have a presentation.  “Mom, is a presentation like a show and share?”)

I think you have misunderstood me

Posted on October 8, 2010. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

We were all sitting at the dinner table (eating a delicious frozen pizza meal!).  BigD was feeling loving toward his family and said “you know, when you’re Mom and I decided to have babies”

ChickenFried interrupts excitedly,  “you’re going to have more babies!”

I quickly answer “NO!  I’m not having any more babies.”

BigD continues, “WHEN we decided to FIRST have babies it was because we wanted more love in our loves.  So we have two kids and two times more love.”

ChickenFried “But if you have 6 kids, you’d have six times as much love.”  Darn it, he actually pays attention in math class.

Dinner continues and becomes more normal.  ChickenFried has pizza sauce all over his mouth.  Punk stands on her chair so BigD can’t see the news.  Yep — two times more love.
