Save Chuck!

Posted on April 28, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, Things I Love, Things That Irritate Me, Web World |

I really love the tv show “Chuck.”

I really hate it when a tv show you love is on the chopping block.

Why do I love “Chuck” — the show, not the actual guy….  It takes some old concepts and warps them into a very entertaining view of our country’s defense system, corporate america, and relationships.  Chuck never takes itself too seriously and usually makes fun of all of the above and itself.   It’s just a really enjoyable hour of tv.

You can get caught up by watching full episodes online via this link: http://www.nbc.com/Chuck/.

I really hope Chuck comes back for another season.  For any of you who don’t already know this … yes I’m a geek.  Yes, I signed the ‘save chuck’ petition.  Yes, I might even write the letter to the studio execs.  But I might have to draw the line at buying the Subway footlong.  http://chucktv.net/2009/04/27/join-finale-a-footlong-monday/

IntantButton For Jeans

Posted on April 27, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, Things I Love, Web World | Tags: , , |

I “discovered” an awesome product through my entrepreneur group on Linkedin.  It is called the InstantButton.  Any woman who has ever tried on a pair of jeans and had the “gap” at the back will appreciate this product.

It is a removable but secure post-type of button that allows you to set the waistband on jeans at just the right setting for a perfect fit.  And at $15 for a set of 2, definitely worth the buy.  Check them out for yourself at: http://instantbuttonforjeans.com/aboutus.html.

A lot of crap – my entire car needs to be cleaned out.

Jersey Boy’s soundtrack.

5. What is your favorite movie and why?

Two — The Shawshank Redemption – what perfect retribution, great acting, suspense, and the bad guy gets what he deserves in the end.

High School Tag

Posted on April 24, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments | Tags: |

I’ve been tagged….

1. Did you date someone from your school?

Yes

2. Did you marry someone from your high school?

No

3. Did you car pool to school?

Not unless you count my parents driving my brother and I

4. What kind of car did you have?

None and I didn’t get my drivers license until I was almost 18.  And NO, that doesn’t explain everything.
5. What kind of car do you have now?

Chevy

6. Its Friday night…where are you now?

It’s actually not Friday night???  How does that work out?  But when it is Friday night, I’ll probably be at home with my family.

7. It is Friday night…where were you then?

Probably at a game and then a party!

8. What kind of job did you have in high school?

Filed paperwork at a business in town.  I still hate filing.

I’m a Product Manager and own my own store – Elemental Baby.
10. Were you a party animal?

Yeah.  I liked a good party.
11. Were you considered a flirt?

I don’t think so.  I just liked to have fun.

12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?

All of the above.
13. Were you a nerd?

I was kind of everything and nothing.  Nerd because I wasn’t that great a sports (but did like to play them).  Not nerd because I was a cheerleader.  Nerd because I was in speech, and band, and theater, etc.  Not nerd because I got along with pretty much everybody.

On the hill where Z-92 comes in better.   Really, that’s what we called it.  When everyone would meet at the co-op and decide where to go, it was usually, ‘let’s go to the hill where Z-92 comes in better.’  If you’ve ever heard the Sugarland song, County Line, it totally reminds me of that place.  It is on the county line and right by the cemetary.

What – I’m Not Smart Enough

Posted on April 21, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing | Tags: , , , |

We’re sitting at dinner at Carter starts in on the unanswerable questions that can make a halfway intelligent person feel pretty dumb.  But then he really put the icing on the cake……

“Mom, how old would the oldest person be in days that was first.”

“What?”

“Well, how old is God?”

“Honey – I don’t know.  Only God knows that.”

“Well, how old is the world?”

“Um, millions of years, but I don’t know exactly.”

“Who was the first person born and how old would he be in days?”

“The Bible says Adam, but no one really knows because they didn’t record history back then.”

Momentary silence.  I thought maybe I’d passed the test.  Then,

“Mom, who’s the smartest person?”

“I would guess that Einstein was right up there.”

“Is he still alive?”

“No, he died a while ago.”

“Well who’s the smartest person who is still alive?”

“Maybe Stephen Hawking.”

“Can we ask him who the first person was and how old they would be?”

And there you have it.  I have been judged not smart enough to answer questions by my almost 7 year old.  Apparently we need to strike up a relationship with Stephen Hawking, so it’s a good thing his infection is clearing up.

By the way, science judges the world to be around 4.5 billion years old, and Lucy is dated to be the oldest human ancestor fossil found.  She is dated to around 5.5 million years ago – that’s 20,075,000,000,000 days.  Yes, Google helped 🙂

Saturday 9

Posted on April 19, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments | Tags: , |

So, as things go in the blog world, I came to http://samanthasaturday9.blogspot.com/ through http://www.shopanniesblogspot.com and it looked like fun and thought I’d give it a try.    Post your answers for even more fun….cause let’s face it, we’re not doing anything else tonight.

almost_famous

1. Have you ever been told that you look like some famous?
Yes – almost anyone with blonde short hair.  In the early 90’s it was Meg Ryan.

met

Then it became Sharon Stone.  (Cute side-story.  When finding the pic to use I fooled both of kids — they really thought this was me!!!  If only, and I don’t think it would fool BigD.)

stone

One time when I cut my hair really short, my brother accused me of trying to look like the lead singer of The Cranberries.

cranberries

How about this…. how about I just become famous, and then I won’t have to worry about it?!

2. Name a celebrity that shares your birthday.
Interesting… if you want to know who shares your b-day, go to http://www.famousbirthdays.com.  Mine: Halle Berry, Magic Johnson, Danielle Steele, Steve Martin, David Crosby (awesome!), and then some ‘celebrities’ I don’t know.

3. Tell us about your first kiss.

Ha – 4-H camp.  I think I was like 12 years old.  A boy asked me to go to the dance with him and that day I was so nervous I thought I was going to puke all day long.  I don’t evenremember his name, but I do remember the prettiest girl in camp was po’d that he asked me.  At the end  of the dance, we walked to the point where the paths split to go to the boy side and girl side, and that’s where I got my first kiss.  Not really all that great because I was so nervous.

4. When you meet someone attractive, what do you notice first?
Eyes – honest.  Then I usually notice their smile/teeth.  I’m a big tooth person.
5. What was your biggest mistake ever?

Since this says mistake, and not regret, here it goes.  Our area newspaper was sponsoring a new auction thing.  We’d just finished building our new house and were talking about putting some type of nice porch on.  So, when I saw a $5,000 3-season porch on the auction, I put on the winning bid.  Hmmmm Oops, the real cost of building the porch is like $25,000, so on top of ‘winning’ the bid we’d have to pay a crap load more.  Thank goodness the guy who put it up for auction let us out of it.

6. Give us one random, but candid fact about you.
I hate grocery shopping.
7. What about your current or most recent lover excites you?
Yeah – that would be current :-).  That he loves me.
8. What really annoys you?

Well, everyone who knows me knows this could be a really long list.  But I’m going to just go with one today people.  And, I’m going to quote Punk (because apparently this really annoys her too).  “Mommy, I don’t like it when stupid people’s in front of us.”  That would be stupid drivers people.  If that’s you and you see us coming, just get out of the way.  We know where we’re going, and you obviously don’t.

9. How many other Saturday 9’ers answers do you usually read?

This is my first….of many!

How Was Vegas

Posted on April 17, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments | Tags: , , , , |

Yes, I’m late in getting this post out there, but isn’t the saying better late than never??

Vegas was great.  BigD and I had a little getaway thanks to MIL L.

Day 1, I walked so much I had blisters … brilliant.  So we are going to meet a couple of BigD’s colleagues for dinner and I beg him to get a cab because I don’t think I can walk the 2 blocks in my killer new 4 inch heels.   We had a wonderful dinner at The Palm.   And in a hilarious small world moment, I saw a handful of people from a prior life.

Day 2, I walked so much I had more blisters … brilliant, especially considering the main reason for walking was to shop and find some new shoes that wouldn’t give me blisters.  Punk was the big winner of the shopping spree.  Had a decent dinner at Del Toro, the Ferrari restaurant.  Yes, you sit and eat Italian while looking at the Ferrari collection.  Then, if you want to pay $10, you can go in and actually touch them.  We passed.  Started to walk some more, but BigD wasn’t feeling all that great, so we had an early night in.

Day 3, off to Red Rock to go hiking.  And no — no blisters.  Hiking boots don’t give you blisters!  We heard about a trail with a mountain pool, so we set out.  As we were going, we kept watching the storm clouds come in over the back range.

stornbw

As we got to the top (or what we assumed was the top) the wind really picked up and we started seeing some snow.  We get to the real top, see the mountain pool, and get nailed….. with sleet.  Cold, wet, windy, sleet.  It’s then that BigD figures out the trail isn’t a loop, but rather a hike in/out.  I’m not sure how he missed that since the dotted line on the trail map ends?  We now have to make our way back down the mountain – the wet, slick mountain, while being pelted by sleet.  I had to take my glasses off because they were so covered in ice.  By the time we got to the bottom (rather uneventfully considering the conditions), we were both soaked.  The storm had moved in and the sun came out, so by the time we got to the car, we were almost dry.  Just crazy.  We ended up hiking another trail, this time down into the valley with a pretty stream, and flowers.

We had an awesome dinner at Postrio, the Wolfgang Puck restaurant.  And, a wonderful wine, Sant’Elena Pino Grigio.  After, we walked around the hotel (Palazzo) which is connected to the Venetian, and took some pics.

I won’t bore you with the details of our excuriating trip home.  Just know we should have been home at 2:30, but got home at 9:00.  United thought they should cancel 30% of their flights.  Thanks United!

Would I recommend Vegas???  Here’s the thing.  There are a ton of different things to do (I’m bummed we didn’t see a show), but the people and smoke are very frustrating.  The trip to the mountains definitely made the trip for me.  Ok, and the food!

Then Why Are You Naked?

Posted on April 13, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

Sleepwalking runs in BigD’s family so we weren’t totally surprised when ChickenFried took up the sport.  We’ve caught him trying to unlock the basement door…. “looking” for the bathroom, etc.  Last week was his topper.

BigD and I are sitting on the couch enjoying some late night tv (you know — around 9:15).  We hear a thump come from the kids’ bedroom.  We didn’t hear any crying so figured they just hit the wall or something.  Back to the show.   Then a few minutes late, the same “thump.”

“That was the shower door” I say looking at BigD.  Even though I was snugly nestled beneath my tv viewing blankie, he motioned that it was my turn to get up.  So off I went.  I look into the bathroom and ChickFried is going potty.  I was very quiet so as to not disturb and cause any type of accidents.  When he’s done I say “whatcha doin?”

“Going potty” he mumbles.

“Then why are you naked?” I ask.  He looks at me like I am completely nuts and starts to walk to bed.  I did manage to stop him and help get his jammies back on and send him off to bed.

As  I looked back at the night, I remembered telling him he probably could have used a shower because he was sweaty.  That must have stuck in his head and on his little sleepwalking adventure, he was bound and determined to take a shower!

Early Easter

Posted on April 12, 2009. Filed under: Mommy Moments, The Parenting Thing |

I know, I know… I’m wayyyyyy behind on posts.  It’s been a busy week since returning from Las Vegas.  I’ll try and get caught up on everything, but for now a quick post.

We celebrated Easter with BigD’s family today.  The kids got to do an egg hunt, which they of course loved.  Unfortunate BigD’s grandmother wasn’t feeling well so she didn’t come over.  Punk was very worried about her and was asking Papa how she was feeling.  After getting the update, Punk advised Papa “don’t touch her Papa.”  I had to explain that when one of the kids is sick, we tell the other one not to touch anything so they don’t get sick.

I promise – updates from Vegas, ChickenFried’s sleep walking episode, and our big night out on the Glenwood town!
